Totally Radical Upcycle
Step-by-step Guide
Just finished transforming your walls with one of Lust Home's new 'Retro Futuristic' designs and suddenly realised your furniture looks less than dope? Don't sweat it. Check out this totally schweet 80s style upcycle. Take a bland coffee table from lame to fame in 5 simple steps.
Get Crackin' with the Kit
Give your furniture a fresh and funky makeover with a bangin' wallpaper, here we chose 'Move to the Music' in Celadon Green and Sunset Orange topped off with 'I'm Blushing' matt emulsion paint. You can try this easy peasy DIY update on any tired furniture that needs a fab new look. We used the trending curvy coffee table from The Range (currently on sale at an incredible ÂŁ24.99!).
Prep Like a Pro
When painting furniture it's always a good idea to give the surface a real good clean beforehand and a light sand. If you want to take an extra step towards perfectionism, give it a coat with primer. We went straight in with the first coat of 'I'm Blushing' matt emulsion paint. This paint is super thick with amazing opacity and goes on like an 80s dream. It's also washable, so no worries about sticky fingers messing with your valley girl vibe.
It's Gettin' Hotter
Two coats of Lust Home's utterly electric 'I'm Blushing' matt emulsion paint should do the job and have your boring table looking totally ravishing in no time. Once nice and dry, lay your chosen wallpaper on the floor and pop your table upside down on top. This is to allow you to draw around the edge of the table. Pro tip: a cute Troll pencil is not essential, but we found it helped to get those creative juices flowing.
Wannabe Curves Incoming
This part can be a bit tricky so take a chill pill and let your mind veg out as you use a pair of scissors to cut out the outline of the table that you've drawn with a pencil. Take your time, a steady hand is key. If your table is wider than the width of the wallpaper you may need two sections of wallpaper, so make sure the pattern matches before you cut.
Paste for Days
Now that you've cut out a perfect table top shape it's time to stick that baby in place. We used Lust Home wallpaper paste, a handy tube of adhesive that makes enough to hang up to 8 rolls of wallpaper. Simply mix your chosen adhesive and apply to the top of the table. Gently guide the wallpaper section into place, making sure all the edges are lined up perfectly with the edge of the table. For extra durability, coat the finished dried surface with a layer of matte varnish.
Get Checkered!
This radical upcycle is very nearly complete save for one last upgrade. We picked a daring black and white checkerboard washi tape which we applied to the table edge for a fresh and funky look. This monochrome style looks freakin' cool with our awesome eighties style wallpaper 'Move to the Music' in Miami Mint and Bubblegum Pink. A perfect partner for the vibrant pop of 'I'm Blushing' matt emulsion paint.
