Electric Art Hack
Step-by-Step Tutorial
You've just revamped your walls with one of Lust Home's latest 80s inspired designs, now what to do with the leftover wallpaper? How about upcycling some artwork for a radically cool 'Electric 80s' finishing touch! Check out what we did with a tired canvas print, leftover wallpaper and sparkly glue in this step-by-step guide.
Waste Not Want Not
Here at Lust Home we're always talking about what to do with leftover wallpaper and making inexpensive artwork is one of our fave hacks. We created this striking artwork using 'Flashback' wallpaper in Denim Blue. This electrifying design was the perfect backdrop and with some imaginative tweaks we created a dazzling piece of art to add that perfect 80s feel to your space.
First Cut is the Deepest
This art hack offers mega rewards for very little work - the ideal hack for busy DIY-ers with plenty of projects on the go. First step is to cut the wallpaper to size. We had a cheap canvas lying around which was in need of an upgrade but you could also use a conventional framed picture which would look amazing too. Use some good quality scissors for a nice clean cut and measure twice, cut once! Pro tip: a cute Troll pencil is not essential, but we found it helped to get those creative juices flowing.
It's Gettin' Sticky
Now you've cut the wallpaper to size it's time to get sticking. We used a roll of glue dots which we applied to the surface of the canvas. Watch out, these glue dots are small but mighty - go easy with them as they are sticky and can end up everywhere! If you plumped for the framed picture choice you can skip this step altogether, either way sparkle is incoming just you wait.
Falling into Place
You are now well on the way to transforming a boring old canvas into a Lust-worthy piece of art. Using leftover wallpaper is a great way of updating so many things in the home, from furniture to gift wrapping. We loved the mini explosions of colour from the dazzling red, pink and blue lightening bolts on 'Flashback' in Denim Blue, a symbolic motif from the 80s to ramp up the retro futuristic vibes. Taking our cut to size piece of wallpaper we carefully laid it onto the waiting glue dots, making sure the edges lined up perfectly so that the original design was covered fully.
Give it a Glow
It's time to inject some 80s sparkle into this upcycle. We love the lightening bolt motif and wanted to build on the bold design with a sweep of glittery sparkle using a glitter infused glue pen. This is such a fun part of the upcycle and you can really let your imagination go wild if you fancied. The glue we used took a few hours to dry so be patient whilst your masterpiece does its awesome thing.
Electrify Your Wall
With the totally rad upcycle now complete there comes just one more job and that is to pick the perfect spot for your artwork to be appreciated in all its glory. We went for a full on 80s colour clash with 'Next Level' wallpaper in Electric Brights as a back drop. This freakin' cool wallpaper is one of our new 'Electric 80s' collection designs that promise to inject your home with a totally rad vibe perfect for homes full of personality.
